Javelinas fall in both double-header games against UT-Tyler

Tyler - Texas A&M-Kingsville fell in both games of the double-header and dropped the series against UT-Tyler Sunday at Irwin Field.

The Javelinas (9-7, 8-7 LSC) lost 2-7 and 5-7 in both games of the double-header. Pitchers Ulises Quiroga and Gabriel LeBlanc were tabbed with their first losses of the season today against the Patriots (13-2, 13-2 LSC).

Game one of the double-header shared many qualities of the first game of the series. As UT-Tyler were able to get two early runs off Quiroga in the bottom of the first. However the Javelinas would not be left off the scoreboard today. Nick Reyes got the offense started with a double, and was brought home thanks to a Patriot passed ball to get the Javelinas within a run.

Quiroga handled the next four batters before UT-Tyler got another run on the board in the fourth. Texas A&M-Kingsville answered right back with a Maurice Martinez RBI single down the right side that got Isaiah Aguilar home to keep the score within one.

UT-Tyler would blow the game open in the sixth, scoring four runs off just two hits that ballooned their lead to five. The Javelinas could not answer back as they fell in game two.

Heading into the second game of the double-header, it would be the Javelinas who scored first with an RBI single from Damian Carreon that scored Martinez. The Patriots answered in a massive way however, scoring six runs in the second and tacked on another run in the third to make the game a 1-7 deficit.

In the sixth, still facing a six-point hole, the Javelinas got to work attempting their comeback. Elijia West was hit by a pitch to get him on first, then an error from the Patriot shortstop got him to third. Landon Salinas then got West and Sergio Galvan Jr. home with a two-RBI single. Javier Benvides then got two more Javelinas home with a two-RBI single of his own to cut the lead to two.

Unfortunately, that would be the closest the Javelinas would get, as their offense would stall in the sixth and was not able to produce in the seventh to seal the Javelinas fate in game three.

Get-away day for the Javelinas is tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
