Tyler, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville travels north to Tyler Texas to take on No. 12 UT-Tyler in a four game series this weekend.
Due to inclement weather, the Javelinas (9-4, 8-4 LSC) and the Patriots (10-2, 10-2 LSC) will push the series back one day, with game one of the series now being played on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CST and will end Monday at 1:00 p.m. CST.
Last week, the Javelinas pulled off an dramatic four-game sweep of UT-Permian Basin that culminated in a walk-off bunt by
Fisher Davis that led to an error by the UTPB third baseman that gave the Javelinas the win in 10 innings.Â
Now, the Javelinas will face a tough test against the Patriots, who are coming off a series sweep themselves against Texas A&M-International. UT-Tyler has suffered only two losses this season, both coming against the previous national runner-up Angelo State.
Both teams have posted great stats to begin the year, as the Patriots and Javelinas sit second and fifth in the conference in team overall batting average and team ERA. Focusing on pitching, the Javelinas have gotten great production from their bullpen this year, especially from redshirt- freshman
Tyler Schumann.
Schumann, who served as a Saturday starter in the first two series, was exceptional coming out of the bullpen this past week. Schuman threw four shutout innings across two games with three strikeouts and just three hits. He also earned his first save of the season in the first game against the Falcons.
Another freshman phenom for the Javelinas is
Maurice Martinez. The true freshman out-fielder had his best series to date against UTPB, notching five hits on nine at-bats and scoring twice. It was Martinez's hitting that sparked the wild comeback against the Falcons in game four, as he totaled three hits with a double and his first career RBI.
First pitch for this weekend's series is set for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
