Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville won in dramatic fashion against UT-Permian Basin, 8-7, in 10 innings to get the series sweep on Sunday.
Redshirt-Freshman
Fisher Davis would be the hero in game four for the Javelinas (9-4, 8-4 LSC), as his bunt would land a hit for himself, and cause an error on the throw by the UTPB (2-10, 2-10 LSC) third baseman that drove in
Sergio Galvan Jr. for the game winning run.
It was the end of the wild comeback for the Hogs, as the game started in disastrous fashion. The Falcons would score six runs on six hits to open up the game in the first, and the first four Javelina batters would all strike out as Texas A&M-Kingsville stared down a 6-0 hole.
Slowly but surely, the Javelinas would chew into the Falcons lead. It all started with a RBI single from
Joshua Endo that got Davis home, then
Isaiah Aguilar singled with a bunt that eventually brought
Maurice Martinez home due to a throwing error.
Jacob Cueva's RBI brought Endo home and the Javelina cut it to a three-run lead.
After UTPB got another run in the top of the fourth, Martinez would get Davis home again with an RBI double that kept the game at a three-run difference. Excellent pitching from
Marco Martinez kept the game within reach in the seventh as Cueva would score thanks to runner's interference from the Falcons followed by SAC RBI from Galvan that brought Damien Carreon home to knot it up at seven.
It was the Tyler Schuman and
Daniel Cardona from there, as both pitchers would combine to go four innings with three strikeouts and three hits with no runs scored as the Javelinas got the sweep over the Falcons.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will hit the road for a four game series against ranked UT-Tyler Feb. 21. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
