Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville got the series win against UT-Permian Basin after winning both double header games Saturday at Nolan Ryan Field.
The Javelinas (8-4, 7-4 LSC) took down the Falcons (2-9, 2-9 LSC) 5-0 and 4-3 in Saturday's contests, getting their sixth win in a row. Game two's result was also the first time the Javelinas shutout an opponent since Mar. 2 2024 against these same Falcons.
In game one, it was a pitching master class from
Ulises Quiroga. The graduate transfer from UTSA went all seven innings, punched out seven Falcon batters and did not allow a single run with just three hits to earn his second win of the season. Quiroga threw just 86 pitches in game two with a remarkable 62 of those pitches registering as strikes.
Offensively, the Hogs jumped all over UTPB in the first inning.
Joshua Endo got the game started with a base hit into left field, followed by a
Vincent Sanchez and
Jacob Cueva walk to load the bases.
Elijia West payed it off with an RBI single to bring in the first run, then
Nick Reyes responded with a two-RBI single before
Sergio Galvan Jr. wrapped up with scoring with a SAC RBI.
In the fourth, Texas A&M-Kingsville would get some insurance with a Endo RBI that brought Galvan home to make it a 5-0 ballgame. Quiroga would allow just two hits in the next three innings and punctuate a game two shut-out victory.
Game three did not start how the Hogs envisioned it, with
Gabriel LeBlanc giving up an early run after the Falcons got one home with an RBI single. Texas A&M-Kingsville wasted no time responding however, as they got the run back with nifty base running from West and
Damian Carreon that led to West stealing home plate.
It would be the Javelinas who would strike next, this time thanks to a UTPB error. Sanchez would advance to third base off of an E5 that scored
Isaiah Aguilar and Endo to make it a two run lead. Cueva then scored Sanchez off a SAC RBI to make it a 4-1 ball game.
UTPB would respond however, scoring two in the top of the fifth. And after the Falcons got a runner on second base,
Daniel Cardona would be called in with the opportunity to save the game. Cardona began by getting the Falcons to fly-out and end the sixth before working through the first two batters in the seventh. After a throwing error got a runner on third and another UTPB batter walked, Cardona got the Javelinas out of the jam with a swinging strikeout and sealed the series victory for the Javelinas.
Texas A&M-Kingsville look to get the sweep Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
