Javelinas drop five-set battle in Cameron

Lawton, OK - In a hard-fought thriller that took five sets to decide, the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team fell, 3-2, to the Cameron Aggies. Along the way, senior setter Elisa Carl, with the first of her 29 assists on the day, passed Sarah Fountain to move into the seventh spot on Javelinas' all-time career assists list.

It was a battle from the beginning, with the Javelinas forcing first-set extra points for the second time this weekend, as the two teams traded the first four sets back-and-forth, forcing a tiebreaking fifth set in which the Hogs fell short. The loss drops the team to 5-4 in Lone Star Conference play and 13-6 overall.

Despite the loss, there were excellent statistical performances to spare. In addition to Carli's assist numbers, her two service aces also tie her for third on the all-time Javelina career aces list - this coming less than 24 hours after she moved into fourth with her aces against Oklahoma Christian last night. Not only that, but senior right side hitter/S Rylan Pollard also dropped her nation-leading sixth triple double of the season, collecting 11 kills, 24 assists, and 17 digs, as well as a pair of block assists - entering the weekend, no other individual in the nation had more than three. Getting the start at libero, junior Monique Gonzalez tied her career high in digs with 28 to go along with four assists.

The middles were active early and often again for the Javelinas, with junior middle blocker Natalee Rush going off for a career-high 17 kills on a .424 attack percentage. Senior MB Madelyn Wallace wasn't far behind, posting a season-high in both kills and total blocks, with 14 and seven respectively. Two of her blocks were solos, and she also added six digs, three assists as well.

Junior Kamryn Briggs worked her way into the outsider hitter rotation, having undoubtedly her best match since donning the blue and gold (transfer from Bakersfield Community College). She notched career highs in both kills and digs with six and 24 respectively, and tied her career high with a pair of block assists.

Kingsville will be back at home for a pair of key LSC matches this coming weekend, with crucial contests against Midwestern St. and Lubbock Christian on Homecoming weekend. The match against the Mustangs (6:00 p.m., Friday) will give the Javelinas a shot at revenge against the squad that beat them in the LSC Challenge earlier this season, and the match against the Chaps (2:00 p.m., Saturday) will give the Hogs a shot at the top team in the LSC (9-0).
