Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville was not able to put away Cameron University, as it fell 86-91 in overtime Thursday at the Steinke Physical Education Center.
With just ten seconds left in regulation, the Javelinas (6-0, 2-6 Lone Star Conference) led the Aggies (5-9, 2-6 LSC) by three. Cameron University missed their first two deep tries, but secured the offensive rebounds on each attempt before hitting the tying three with just 1.2 second left. The Javelinas got as good of a look as you could, with
Nate Lacewell's game-tying attempt rimming out as time expired.
In the second overtime in as many weeks, the Javelinas were the team to get out to a hot start, building a solid four-point lead thanks to a jumper from
Allen Singleton and free throws from
Isaiah Payne. Cameron would not go quietly however, knotting the game up at 82 apiece. Singleton would make a clutch 3-pointer thanks to a nice find from
James Livingston, but the Aggies answered right back with a 3-pointer of their own.
Down one with under a minute to go, Texas A&M-Kingsville were not able to convert on a Singleton deep ball. Cameron would turn it over on the ensuing rebound, which gave Texas A&M-Kingsville another crack at retaking the lead. However, a costly late game turnover from the Javelinas eventually doomed their chances as Cameron hit game sealling free-throws late in overtime.
Payne led the Javelinas with 22 points, Singleton was not too far behind with 18 points and a career-best seven assists.
Zyon Little contributed 10 points and four rebounds with Lacewell leading the team with nine rebounds.
Texas A&M-Kingsville takes on Oklahoma Christian Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CST at the SPEC. The game will be streamed on Flosports and fans of the Javelinas can follow live coverage at JavelinaMBB on Twitter.
