Austin - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not generate enough offense to keep up with St. Edward's as it fell, 92-74 at the Recreation and Convocation Center in Austin on Sunday.
The Javelinas (6-7, 2-5 Lone Star Conference) shot just 46.3 percent from the floor and 31.3 percent from long-range. Meanwhile the Hilltoppers (10-5, 4-2 LSC) hit over half their shots from the floor and hit 13 3-pointers in the game.
Isaiah Payne led the Javelinas in both points and rebounds with 15 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard
James Livingston and Sophmore
Jake Arnold scored new career-bests with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Allen Singleton led the way with five assists.
Turnovers were a big factor in the early goings on the game, as the Hilltoppers forced three turnovers in the first 10 minutes while the game still hung in the balance. After a 3-pointer by
Nate Garcia brought the game within two points for the Javelinas, St. Edward's made five 3-pointers to take a 12 point lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Texas A&M-Kingsvlle made things interesting when Payne cut into the defense for a layup after a Hilltopper turnover to cut the lead to just six points. However, St. Edward's would make their next four baskets, including two and-one's, to balloon the lead back to fourteen and put a stamp on the game.
Texas A&M-Kingsville returns home to take on Oklahoma Christian Thursday at 7:30 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can either watch live on Flosports or follow live coverage at JavelinaMBB on Twitter.
