Kingsville - This weekend, the Texas A&M - Kingsville men's and women's track and field teams are splitting up, with some of each team set to compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University, while the rest will head back to Houston for the Robert Platt Invitational.
The two meets will be the third and fourth competitions of 2025 for the Javelinas, with the first two, each in Houston, resulting in significant success for both teams, including a Lone Star Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week Award for freshman
David Guzman.Â
Head Coach
Ryan Dall is sending 13 athletes, seven men and six women, to the Terrier Classic. The meet will be massive, with more than 100 teams set to compete across two days of competition that will include professional runners and D1 Power Four schools running their best athletes. The women's competition will take place on Friday and the men's on Saturday.Â
"The Boston University indoor facility has become a Mecca for those running the oval," Hall said. "Most national qualifiers come from a meet that is run at their facility. We are hoping we can add to that history with the group we are bringing."
The Robert Platt Invite - which will also take place over the course of two days - will feature 36 Javelinas, 17 on the men's side and 19 on the women's. While it's a smaller meet than the one in Boston, there will still be plenty of high-level competition in Houston as, along with TAMUK and their host, 12 other teams - Blinn, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisiana Monroe, Rice, SFA, Sam Houston, St. Thomas (Texas), East Texas A&M, and Texas Southern - set to compete.Â
"The rest of the team will be travelling to Houston with the expectation to keep moving up the conference and national rankings." Hall said. "We are hoping for some event wins and plenty of top five finishes. The Robert Platt Invite will prepare our athletes for the conference meet, which is also two days."
Both events will be live streamed, with the links posted online alongside the teams' schedules.
