Kingsville - With a first-place performance in the Our Lady of the Lake Saint's Classic on Friday, senior
Maya Espinosa won her first ever Lone Star Conference Runner of the Week award.
Espinosa ran six thousand meters in 22:12.1, leading the Javelinas to their fastest average 6k time in program history. She was the first of four TAMUK runners to cross the finish line consecutively, each of whom finished more than 1:20 ahead of the fifth-place runner on their way to a team win at the Invite.
"This award shows the hard work and dedication she had over the summer," Assistant Coach Zach Hall said. "It also shows that our program is moving in the right direction."
Espinosa's Invite-winning time was the second fastest 6k time posted by an LSC runner so far this year. In fact, after the Javelinas' spectacular weekend, they now own three of the conference's top four 6k times.
The TAMUK cross country teams now have a few weeks off to rest and prepare for October 12's Lewis Cross Over, their last race before the LSC Championship.
