Kingsville - The Javelina cross country teams are headed right back to the Windcrest Golf Course in Windcrest, Texas for the second weekend in a row, this time for the sixth annual Our Lady of the Lake Invitational.
Unlike last weekend, when the teams ran in the Incarnate Word Invitational, the women's and men's teams will be running the 6000 meter and 8000 meter races respectively.Â
Along with the Javelinas and their hosts, Nelson - an NAIA school - Texas Lutheran University, Victoria - a Junior College.
At last week's race, TAMUK placed 9th among the nine teams competing, though they finished just one point from UTRGV in 8th.
A trio of freshman led the way for the Javelinas in that race, as
Roberto Alejandro ran 20:35.4 four-mile time with a 30th-place finish. Behind him,
Roberto Trevino and Alan Baez finished exactly three seconds apart, at 21:21.4 (47th) and 21:24.4 (48th) respectively. Assistant Coach Zach Hall said that despite the distance of the men's race increasing from the UIW Invite - 4.97 miles as opposed to four - the goal remains similar to last week's.
"Let's try to add another mile to the distance while maintaining the same pace," Hall said. "It should be a good matchup between us and a very talented OLLU squad."Â
At last week's race, the women's team took home a 6th-place finish with a pair of Javelinas placing in the top 15. Seniors
Maya Espinosa and
Odette Fernandez finished in 11th and 14th respectively with each sub-18:50 5k times. This weekend, however, the team will be at full strength, though not full speed.
"We are finally rolling out our top 4 for this meet," Hall said. "However we are going to run a controlled first 3k. This race will be a tune up for the Lewis Crossover meet in a couple of weeks."
Full results from the race will be available
