Kingsville - Following a three-week break from competition, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's and women's cross country teams hitting the road ahead of their races at the 24th Annual Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.

The races will mark the first time the Javelinas will roll out their full squads on both the men's and women's side, with the Lone Star Conference Championship races three weeks away (set to be run in Fort Worth). 

"This is a good race for us to truly open our season," Hall said. "Everything to this point has really just been practice. So to 'take off the reigns' here on a national caliber course with major competition will be fun."

Both the men's and the women's team will bring seven runners, including the men's sophomore Kristian Green, who will make his debut in the blue and gold in Kentucky. The Javelinas will compete in three different races throughout the morning, with the men's team running in the Blue race at 10:15 a.m., and the women, outside of senior Ivanova Yanes, set to run in women's silver race at 12:15 p.m.. 

"I'm excited to see how the men will do in the first 8k of the season with three true freshmen in the lineup," Hall said. "The rest of the women are in the silver race. I'm hoping that our top three all finish in the top 20. The pack of Ella, Kayla, and Yari have been looking great at practice."

Yanes, the most decorated women's distance runner in TAMUK history, will be the first Javelina of the day to race, running in the women's gold race at 9:45 a.m..

"I'm excited to see how Iva will do in a race with many D1 and D2 All-Americans," Assistant Coach Zachary Hall said. "A point for us has been about being patient."
