Louisville, KY - The Texas A&M-Kingsville cross country teams competed in three different races at the Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday morning, with the women's team taking sixth-place and the men 27th, racing against difficult, Division I competition.
"I think we ran very well," Assistant Coach
Zachary Hall said. "I was hoping for some cooler weather for the races, but we looked good."
The day's competition marked the first time that the Javelinas have raced their full squads on both the men's and women's sides, with men's sophomore transfer
Kristian Green running his first race in the blue and gold - he led the team with a 26:07.1 8k, the third-fastest of his collegiate career.
"The men did a great job of moving up," Hall said. "I think most of them moved up about 80-100 spots throughout the race. This is the second best 8k team average in school history."
On the women's side, senior
Ivanova Yanes, the sole Javelina to compete in the 'Gold' race at an Invite stuffed with professional runners and D1 power-four schools, ran a new personal best in the 5k, racing an 18:05.1 - the second-best time ever run by a Javelina.
"The women did great in their race, two in the top 25," Hall said. "It was hot, but they finished 6th overall in a good field. We did a great job of moving up over the final 2k of the race."
Kingsville will be back on the course for a preview of the Lone Star Conference Championship course when they race in Dallas Baptist's Old Glory Gallop at the AP Ranch in Fort Worth.
