Javelinas add Division I opponent to future schedule

Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville athletics has announced that UTRGV is set to be a future opponent for Javelina football on Monday.

The game is scheduled to be played on September 4, 2027. The Javelinas will travel to either UTRGV's home campus in Edinburg to play at Robert & Janet Vackar Stadium or a satellite campus in Brownsville to play at Sam's Memorial Stadium. Neither location has been confirmed.

This matchup will pit the Javelinas and the Vaqueros against each other for the first time in each program's history. It will also be the first time since a 2016 win against Incarnate Word that the Javelinas will face a Division I opponent.

UTRGV is re-establishing a football program that has lain dormant since 1950, when the school was referred to as University of Texas-Pan American. The Vaqueros are set to compete in an exhibition schedule in 2024 and officially begin play in 2025 as a member of the Southland Conference.

The Javelinas are the second program that have announced non-conference games against UTRGV, with Texas State announcing its games against the Vaqueros in 2027 and 2030.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will kick off its 2024 season at home against the University of Colorado-Mesa on August 29.
