KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Javelinas took on a doubleheader against the Chaps of Lubbock Christian on Friday afternoon, dropping both games, 10-15 and 3-4.
The Javelinas (23-18, 21-18 LSC) drop their first series in their last four, having won two and split one of the previous three.
GAME ONE
LCU was first on the scoreboard in the third inning with three runs with the Javelinas responding with two runs of their own in the fourth.
Kyle Perales blasted a two-run home run to left field for the first RBIs of the day for the Hogs.
The Chaps extended their lead to 12-2, scoring six runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth. The Javelinas had an explosive inning of their own in the bottom of the sixth with five runs.
Vincent Sanchez opened the inning with a solo shot to left-center with
Collin Young following up three batters later with another two-run homer. The Hogs added two more runs in the inning after
Jacob Rosales scored on a wild pitch and
Ramsey Amador came home after a bases-loaded walk on Sanchez.
The Javelinas brought home three more runs in the final inning, but the Chaps similarly scored three in the top of the frame to put the game out of reach, 15-10. Amador picked up an RBI with a double down the left-field line before
Brandon Ramirez collected his first RBI of the season on a single to center.
Ryan Markwardt (7-1) is credited with the win for the game and
Carson Shepherd (4-1) is given the loss.
GAME TWOÂ
The Chaps got on the board first once again with a run apiece in the first and second innings before the Javelinas tied up the ballgame in the bottom of the second, 2-2.
Seth Brecheen and
MJ Rodriguez picked up RBIs on back-to-back at-bats with a double to left for Brecheen and a single to center for Rodriguez.
LCU tacked on two more runs in the third before both teams were held scoreless through the fourth and fifth. The Hogs cut the deficit to one in the sixth off the bat of a Rosales hit that forced a fielding error by the Chap third baseman.Â
Trailing by one entering the final inning, the Hogs threatened to send the game to extra innings for the second time in the series with a runner on third but could not convert as the Chaps took the win and secured the series, 4-3.
Chris Rhoades (5-3) picks up the win for the game while
Colton Taylor (2-5) is pegged with the loss.
The two teams meet one more time on Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
