KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team opened up their final series of the regular season against the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Thursday evening, falling to TAMIU in game one, 1-5.
The Javelinas (23-24, 21-24 LSC) fall below .500 overall but still have the chance to finish above .500 overall and .500 in conference with three games remaining.
The Dustdevils put the first runs on the board with two runs in the second and third innings to open a 4-0 lead. Two innings later, TAMIU scored one more to extend the lead to five.
The Hogs scored their lone run of the night in the bottom of the fifth off the bat of
Dalton Kramer with a solo home run to left-center. Kramer is up to six home runs on the year, the third-highest on the team behind
Ramsey Amador and
Kyle Perales at seven.
Isaac Ponce (7-2) is credited with the win for TAMIU while
Carter Poulson (3-5) is given the loss for TAMUK.
The teams meet for games two and three of the series on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader. Game one of the afternoon is slated for 2 p.m. with game two scheduled for 5 p.m.
