SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team opened up the series against the No. 23 Angelo State Rams on Friday evening, falling to the Rams, 5-15.
The Javelinas (23-20, 21-20 LSC) drop the first game of the series. The Rams (27-12, 25-12 LSC) have won four of their last five games.
Both teams put runs on the board in the second inning to open the game.
MJ Rodriguez collected the first RBI of the evening with a single down the left side, scoring
Vincent Sanchez who opened the game with a hit-by-pitch.
Dalton Kramer followed up with a double to the opposite field to bring Rodriguez home.
Tied at 2-2, the Rams brought five runs past the plate to open up a 7-2 lead in the third. The Javelinas did not get back on the board until the sixth inning, scoring three to bring themselves within striking distance of a comeback. After
Garrett Thompson opened the inning with a double,
Kyle Perales picked up two RBIs with one swing of the bat, homering to left-center.
Jacob Rosales brought home run number three in the inning four batters later on a sacrifice fly.
The Rams pulled away with one run in the bottom of the sixth and seven runs in the eighth to put away the chance of a Javelina comeback and trigger a run rule, 15-5.
Seth Foster (4-1) is credited with the win for ASU while
Carter Poulson (3-4) is given the loss for TAMUK.
The teams meet for a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. Game one of the day is scheduled for 4 p.m. and game two is scheduled for 7 p.m.
