SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader against the No. 23 Angelo State Rams on Saturday evening.
The Javelinas (23-22, 21-22 LSC) drop their second series in a row. The Rams (29-12, 27-12 LSC) win their second series in a row.
GAME ONE
The Hogs struck first to open the first game of the day with two runs in the opening inning.
Kyle Perales brought home two runs with a double to right-center to open up the early 2-0 lead.
The Rams responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame then tacked on one more in the third to tie the ballgame at 2-2.
In the fourth, the Javelinas plated two more runs to regain the lead before the Rams shot back with three runs to inch in front, 5-4.
Eric Garcia and
Colton Allen both picked up RBIs with a double from Garcia and a single from Allen afterward.
Trailing by one, the Hogs were kept scoreless for the rest of the contest while Angelo State added on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final score of 9-4.
Braxton Pearson (3-1) is given the win for ASU while
Colton Taylor (2-6) is given the loss for TAMUK.
GAME TWO
The Javelinas were first on the scoreboard once again as both teams posted two runs in the second inning for another 2-2 ballgame early on.
Garrett Thompson and Garcia picked up the RBIs on back-to-back at-bats with Thompson sacrificing to bring home
Michael Cervantes while Garcia knocked a single up the middle to score Perales.
A dry stretch of three innings followed for both teams before the Rams broke the deadlock with four runs in the sixth once again.
Trailing by four, the Javelinas attempted one last surge at a comeback. With Garcia and
Brandon Ramirez on base,
Dalton Kramer blasted a three-run homer to right-center to make it a one-score ballgame with one out. The effort was too little, too late, however, as the Rams closed out the game on the next two batters up to stop the comeback in its tracks and take the win, 6-5.
Alezeah Gutierrez (7-3) is credited with the win for the Rams while
Matt Vasquez (2-1) is pegged with the loss for the Javelinas.
The teams meet for one last game on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
