Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO, Texas - After a low scoring game one and a tight game two, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team sits at 1-2 in the series against the St. Mary's Rattlers after splitting Friday's doubleheader, 4-1 and 4-5.
The Javelinas (22-15, 20-15 LSC) will look to grab the win tomorrow to split the series, having won their last two. The Rattlers (14-19, 12-19 LSC) are looking to grab their first series win since Feb. 25 against Oklahoma Christian.
GAME ONE
Slow and steady wins the race was the theme of game one, as the Javelinas brought one run across the plate in four different innings and holding the Rattlers to just one.
Michael Cervantes chalked up the first RBI of the afternoon with a single to left field to score
Ramsey Amador, who was the first hit of the game for the Hogs with a single of his own.
The Hogs added one more run in the second and third innings.
Jaden Cavazos belted a triple down the right field line in the second while
Jake Chapman collected a double in the opposite direction in the third, both nabbing an RBI.
The Rattlers scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth, but the Hogs responded again in the sixth, tacking on one more run.
Garrett Thompson collected an RBI thanks to a fielding error by the Rattler's left fielder, bringing home Chapman for a score of 4-1.
Sergio Lopez (5-3) is credited with the win for the Hogs and
Daniel Cardona tallies his third save of the year. Braeden Brown (0-2) is given the loss for StMU.
GAME TWO
Things got off to a much faster start for the Rattlers in game two, quickly jumping out to a 5-0 lead with three runs in the opening inning and two more in the third.
The Hogs rallied for a huge fourth inning, bringing four runs home to cut the deficit to one. Thompson put the first RBI of the game on the board for TAMUKÂ with a single, scoring Amador.
Kyle Perales followed up with a three-run blast over the left field fence. The homer is his fifth of the season.
After two scoreless innings, the Hogs threatened to strike to tie the game in the final inning with runners on third and second with two outs, but could not convert as the Rattlers snuck out with the win, 5-4.
Kaleb Gauna (3-2) is given the win for StMU while
Colton Taylor (2-3) is given the loss for TAMUK.
The two squads meet one last time on Saturday afternoon to decide the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
