KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball is back home at the SPEC as they get ready to kick off a four-game home stand, starting with the Oklahoma Christian Eagles and Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions.
Last time out against the two, the Javelinas (5-15, LSC 3-12) fell to a red-hot shooting Lions squad, 63-85, and dropped a thrilling overtime battle against the Eagles, 81-88.
First up, the Hogs take on OC on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Then, the Javelinas battle the Lions on Saturday, Feb. 10 with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
Last weekend against St. Mary's four Javelinas put up double-digit points on the scoresheet, led by
C.J. Smith with 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including going 4-of-7 from deep.
Jason Clark was close behind with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting.
Marcus Jones-Green and
Kendrick Washington were the other two Javelinas with 10 or more points on the game. Jones-Green put up 16 points, going 4-of-7 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. Washington totaled 10 points on the night while also leading the team in rebounds with seven.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Eagles are coming off of a four-game home stint of their own where they finished 2-2.
Moun'tae Edmundson has been the main scorer for OC, averaging 14.2 PPG. Quinton Johnson II follows up in second with 10.9 PPG.
Edmundson is also the main three-point threat for the Eagles, averaging 43.0% from deep on 86 attempts.
Johnson III is the top rebounder for the team with 107 total boards. He also sits third on the team in assists with 35.
The Eagles have had a notable presence in the paint over their opposition, possessing a rebounding margin of +3.8 and 19 more blocks than their opponents.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
UAFS have had a rough stretch, currently sitting on a six-game losing streak.
Three Lions average more than 10.0 PPG, led by Payton Brown (12.95), and followed by Roland McCoy (11.32) and Lian Ramiro (11.08)
Brown and McCoy are also the main three-point threats on the team, sitting at 38.8% and 35.0% on 116 and 103 attempts respectively.
The Lions have had trouble holding onto the ball this season, giving up 21 more turnovers and forcing more than 40 less steals than their opponents.
