Silver City, NM. - Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to finish the final stretch of the regular season strong as it takes on Western New Mexico Saturday in Silver City, New Mexico.
The Javelinas (5-4, 4-3 Lone Star Conference) are coming off a heartbreaking loss at home to West Texas A&M in which Texas A&M-Kingsville gave up two fourth-quarter touchdowns to eventually fall to the Buffaloes, 21-14. Now the Javelinas will get an opportunity to right their wrongs against the Mustangs (2-7, 0-7 LSC).
Historically, the matchup has favored the Javelinas. In the seven matchups the two teams have faced each other in, Texas A&M-Kingsville has only lost one matchup against Western New Mexico (11/4/2017). Last time the two teams faced, it was a rout in favor of the Javelinas, who took down the Mustangs 30-9.
Western New Mexico is led by outstanding sophomore linebacker Cole Lalama, who leads the team in tackles and is second in the LSC in total tackles. As a team however, the Mustangs have struggled this season, ranking near the bottom of the conference in both scoring offense and scoring defense.
