Wichita Falls - Texas A&M-Kingsville finished their last road game on the right foot taking down Midwestern State, 3-1, at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Saturday.
The Javelinas (12-11, 4-9 Lone Star Conference) dominated the match offensively, finishing with three players that scored 10 or more kills. Overall, Texas A&M-Kingsville hit .259 percent and scored 64 kills to take the Mustangs (13-12, 5-7 LSC) in four sets.
It was also a special day for the Javelinas, as senior
Meghan Stiefer scored her 500th career kill midway through the second set.
Ayanna Jackson would erupt for a team-high 19 kills on 29 swings,
Rylan Pollard was right behind Jackson with 17 kills herself.
Elisa Carli would go for a team high 30 assists and Stiefer would lead the team with 13 digs.
The offense would show its fangs in the first set, as the Javelinas rallied back from a three-point deficit midway through the first set. Leading the way was
Ayanna Jackson, who went a flawless nine-for-nine on attacks to put the Javelinas on top in set one.
Set two started much like how yesterday's match went, as Midwestern State would build an impressive 8-2 lead early in the second set. A service ace by Carli would eventually kick-off a 8-1 run that tied the game. From there the offense showed out, scoring 13 kills and putting the game on match point.
After the Mustangs took set three, the Javelinas leaned on their offense in the final set of the match. A Pollard led run midway through the set would put the Javelinas up by five, and a kill by Stiefer in the waning moments would seal the win for the Javelinas.
Texas A&M-Kingsville returns to Steinke Physical Education Center Friday to take on Eastern New Mexico at 5:00 p.m. The game will be streamed on Flosports.
