twKingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsvile won its fourth straight game with a 40-13 home win over Midwestern State behind a career game from senior running back
Roger Hagan.
Hagan ran for a career-high 179 yards, scoring twice as one half of a balanced offense that put up  405 total yards and found the endzone two times. Sophomore quarterback
Teague Sedtal followed up a four-touchdown performance against UT Permian Basin that won him Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week with a 200-yard, two-touchdown night.
"Our guys have a vision of how good we want to be as a team," said Head Coach
Michael Salinas. "Our job is to go out and compete against that vision everyday. We get one opportunity every week to get it done, so we work hard to go out and put the best version of ourselves on the field."
Despite a slow start that saw the Mustangs score first and hold a lead for the first quarter and a half of the game, the Javelinas scored twice - a touchdown and two field goals - before halftime to take a 16-13 lead into the locker room.Â
Midwestern State entered the game with one of the better passing attacks in the conference and showed why early, using a screen pass on third down to score from 33 yards out just five minutes into the game. Just a few drives later, the Kingsville offense did what it does best - used a long, balanced drive to get into opposing territory and put points on the board. The right leg of senior kicker
Gilbert Garza did the honors from 48 yards out to cut into the Javelinas' deficit.
The defense did its job in turn, forcing back-to-back three-and-outs - the second of which set up the Kingsville offense on its own 34 yard-line. The team made good use of the field position, leaning on Hagan to set up an 18-yard connection between Sedtal and graduate student receiver
CJ Thompson, who made an over-the-shoulder grab for the Javelinas' first touchdown of the game.
Midwestern was quick to answer back with a touchdown of its own just before halftime, but Hagan would begin to take the game over. He broke off a 36-yard rush that would eventually lead to his first touchdown of the day. A quick three-and-out by the Mustangs gave the Javelinas the ball with 28 seconds left, but it was just enough time to put another three points on the board.
The second half would start with a bang for the Javelinas, as
Xavier Henderson would punch the ball out of a Mustang running back right into the arms of
Blake Jaques who rumbled his way in for a touchdown. With the momentum now completely on their side, Sedtal would find
Jackson Allen in the corner of the endzone soon after to put the Javelinas in a commanding position.
From there, it was smooth sailing for the Javelinas.
Luis Jaramillo would nab his first interception of the year to set up Hagan's second touchdown of the day, and the defense would get one last redzone hold thanks to a
Daniel Perez sack to earn their third conference win.
Texas A&M-Kingsville travels to San Angelo in a big conference match against Angelo State Saturday Oct. 12 at 6:00 p.m. CT.

- The Javelina defense found its turnover groove, forcing a season high three turnovers and scoring their first non-offensive touchdown of the year.
