Javelinas stumble in San Angelo

San Angelo - Texas A&M-Kingville lost their first conference game of the season as it fell to Angelo State at Legrand Stadium on Saturday

The Javelinas (4-2, 3-1 Lone Star Conference) could not keep up with the Rams (4-2, 4-0 LSC) in this one, surrendering 342 passing yards in San Angelo. Costly mistakes early in the contest would set the pace for a tough outing for the Javelinas.

"We have to be ready to go to work," said Head Coach Michael Salinas. "We gotta put this one behind us in 24 hours and we have to find a way to get better."

Roger Hagan would rush for 77 yards, CJ Thompson added 22 receiving yards. Demarcus Hendricks led the way defensively for the Javelinas, finishing with 6 total tackles, two TFL's and a sack on the day. Rayden Campbell would also add three solo tackles of his own.

Neither team was able to get much going as the game kicked off, with both teams exchanging punts. It was the Rams who struck first, blocking one of the Javelina punts and converting a short touchdown soon after.

A costly turnover by the Javelinas on their next drive would lead to another Ram touchdown, and it would be all Angelo from there. The Javelina offense continued to struggle, punting on their next three drives. They would get a block from Xavier Henderson on a Angelo State field goal attempt to make it 21-0 at halftime.

The second half would not be kinder to the Javelinas, as Angelo State would begin to uncork their passing offense. Two quick touchdowns by the Rams would give them a commanding lead and it would be a hole too deep for the Javelinas to climb out of.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will return home for its homecoming game against Central Washington University Oct. 19th at 7:00 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on Flosports.
