Javelinas sweep Falcons for first conference win

Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville secured its first conference win of the season with a dominant sweep of UT-Permian Basin Friday at the Steinke Physical Education Center.

The Javelinas (9-5,1-2 Lone Star Conference) got a huge win over the Falcons (8-4, 1-2 LSC) in their home conference opener. The victory came after the Javelinas dropped their first two conference matches to open LSC play.

"I think we just did a great job passing," said Middle Blocker Ayanna Jackson. "We did so good at setting up fast and when I got to the middle I just had so much room"

Jackson showed why she is one of the best players in the entire country, leading the Javelinas with 12 kills and seven total blocks. Elisa Carli totaled 27 assists and Meghan Stiefer finished with a team-high 16 digs.

The Javelinas started the match off feeling the urgency of the contest. They would score the first five points of the first set, and would build that into a 21-11 point lead. UTPB would not go away quietly however, eventually bringing themselves back with just two points. Stiefer would come in clutch for the Javelinas and secure the final kill of set one.

Set two started and finished as a tightly contested game between the two teams. Texas A&M-Kingsville would keep finding advantages for itself throughout the set thanks to great attacks from Jackson and Kendall Harrington. Eventually, it was Jackson's two straight kills that put the Javelinas on the precipice of winning the match.

The final set was the most dominant performance of the night for the Javelinas. After the Falcons scored the first three points, the Javelinas would rip off seven straight points and never look back. The lead would eventually balloon to a six point lead thanks to Jackon and Rylan Pollard before Natalee Rush put the finishing touches on the match.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will celebrate its' pinkout match Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against Western New Mexico University in the Steinke Physical Education Center. The game will be streamed on Flosports.
