Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not contain Dallas Baptist University as it fell at home on Saturday.
In a rematch of last year's Lone Star Conference Tournament semifinals, the Javelinas (11-10, 3-7 LSC) were on the opposite side of the result this time. The Patriots (14-6, 8-2 LSC) were able to get their revenge on the Javelinas from last year's tournament, beating the Javelinas.
Ayanna Jackson led the Javelinas with 12 kills,
Elisa Carli and
Nadia Pena both finished with double-digit assists with 14 and 10 assists respectively. Carli also led the team in digs with 10 for the match.
Both teams were knotted up as the match began, with the Javelinas eventually pulling out a small lead thanks to a
Kendall Harrington kill. Dallas Baptist would then rattle off six straight points to go up by four and they would not relinquish the lead back for the rest of the set.
Set two would not be much better for the Javelinas, as DBU hit .455 in the set and finished with 16 kills. Meanwhile the Javelinas could not get their offense unraveled, and combined with the offense attack of the Patriots, Texas A&M-Kingsville fell in the second set.Â
In the final set of the match, DBU jumped on the Javelinas early, going up by as much as five points in the early goings. The Javelinas, with their backs against the Wall, would rally behind Jackson and get within one point of the Patriots. That would be as far as they would get however, as they could not overcome a late DBU run to seal the match.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will embark on its final road trip of the year as it takes on Texas Woman's University in Denton on Friday at 6:00 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on Flosports.
