Monmouth, OR. - Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to get back to its winning ways Saturday as it travels up to Oregon to take on Western Oregon at McArthur Field.
The Javelinas (4-3, 3-2 Lone Star Conference) are coming off back-to-back tough performances against Angelo State and Central Washington. Now they must travel to another top team in the conference in the Wolves (5-2, 5-0 LSC) to get back on track this season.
Western Oregon has been the surprise of the season in the LSC. Picked to finish eighth in the conference, the Wolves have yet to drop a game in conference play and are coming off a 30-27 OT thriller against reigning LSC champion UT-Permian Basin.
Since 2006, the matchup has favored the Wolves over the Javelinas. Western Oregon holds a 5-2 record against the Javelinas since 2006, but the Javelinas took the victory in the last matchup 48-37. That game was the first matchup in Monmouth between the Javelinas and Wolves in 17 years.
Kickoff for Saturday's matchup is set for 3:00 p.m. CT with the game being broadcasted on Flosports. Fans can follow the Javelinas either through live stats or at JavelinaFB on Twitter.
Quick Hitters:
- Texas A&M-Kingsville will face one of the best rushing attacks in the conference in back-to-back weeks, as Western Oregon currently sits third in the conference averaging 203 rushing yards per game.
- Despite Central Washington's success running the football last week, the Javelinas still sit atop the conference in rushing defense giving up 76.1 rushing yards per game.
- This is in large part due to the play of the defensive line. While
Xavier Henderson and
Demarcus Hendricks have been sensational,
Blake Jaques and
Kerry North have provided steady contributions to the Javelinas defensively.
- The offense should receive a boost this week as running back
Lawrence Starks continues to get brought into the fold. The junior from Riverside Community College saw his first action against Central Washington.
- Receiver
Jackson Allen has also been a bright spot for the offense. The Graduate Student from Sinton has had multiple receptions in every game this season as his catch total increases to 21 receptions.
