LAWTON, Okla. – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's golf team wrapped up the first event of the Fall 2023 season at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Invitational with a second-place finish in the seven team field. This is the team's first second or higher finish since the 2019 PGA Works Collegiate Championship where they also finished second.
"The girls played so solid this week," said head coach
Stefanie Maynard, "Everyone kept their heads in the game and really competed each and every hole through all of the weather issues that we had. I'm so proud of them for pushing their limits."
The team ended the day with a score of +24, finishing the event with an overall score of +32 to secure second place, only trailing Oklahoma Christian at +22. The Javs beat out five other teams at the event, including LSC foes Lubbock Christian, Angelo State, and Cameron.
Leading the way for the Javelinas,
Victoria Patterson and
Kristin Grabow would finish tied together for fifth place at +6. Grabow birdied the sixth to score +5 on the day while Patterson found a birdie on hole eleven to finish day two at +4.
Cesilee Mokry wrapped up her second day at +7 to finish with an overall score of +10 to secure a tie for 14
th-place.
Zoe Dean was close behind, finishing in a tie for 18
th-place with +12.
Rounding out the event for the Javelinas,
Alessia Rojas finishing tied for 29
th-place after a one stroke improvement on her first round with +8 and +17 overall.
Jamie Miller ended in a tie for 31
st-place after also beating her previous round by a stroke for an overall score of +17.
The team will be back on the course September 30 for the Golfweek Division II Invitational at The Raven Golf Course in Destin, Florida.
