KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville fell in its second game of its home series against No. 2/1 Angelo State in extra innings, 1-0 before the second game of the day's twin bill was postponed due to weather.
The second half of the doubleheader entered into a lightning delay in the top of the fifth inning with Rams leading 6-2. The game will resume tomorrow at 1 p.m. before the teams will play the series finale at Nolan Ryan Field.
Game One
The first game of the day was a pitcher's duel of TAMUK's pitching staff against ASU's star in Kade Bragg with only one run coming across between the two teams via an RBI sacrifice fly to left field in the eighth inning.
ASU looked poised to strike early in the game moving runners into scoring position, but Karson Shepard fanned the Ram batter to end the inning.
Shepard and Bragg went head-to-head for most of the game with neither surrendering a run in their outings.
In the sixth, ASU loaded the bases with one out marking the end of Shepard's outing as Cole Payne entered in relief. The junior from Cuero got TAMUK out of the jam inducing a double play ground ball to end the inning with no runs surrendered.
The Hogs looked primed for a second straight walk-off in the seventh as Jacob Rosales reached third with two outs following his two out single, but Bragg got a much-needed strikeout to send the game to extras.
The Rams got the one run across on the sacrifice fly but were limited to just one as TAMUK turned another inning ending double play.
Following getting the final out via groundout in the eighth, Bragg was ejected after turning towards the Javelina dugout and shouting for the second time in the game.
Game 2
Before being postponed, the Rams took a 6-2 lead in the second half of the day's twin bill with four coming across in the third inning via a Javelina error, two wild pitches, and an RBI double to left center.
The Hogs cut the four-run deficit in half as Jacob Rosales lined a two-run home run down the left field line that hooked around the foul pole in the fourth inning.
ASU responded with a solo home run in the fifth and then a bases-loaded walk to go up 6-2 before lightning, rain, and hail saw the game postponed.
