KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville fell in its final two home games of the regular season to No. 2/1 Angelo State on Sunday afternoon.
The Rams (36-6, 34-6 LSC) took the first game of the day, 10-2 in a continuation of yesterday's game which stood at 6-2 before in the fifth before being postponed due to inclement weather.
The Javelinas (24-22, 22-21 LSC) were unable to earn a series split in the finale, with ASU taking a 6-1 decision.
Game one
With the game resuming with a 6-2 lead and bases loaded for the Rams in the top of the fifth, ASU pushed one more run across in the inning via a sacrifice fly to center field.
An inning later, the Rams pushed another run across with a sacrifice bunt pushing the lead to six at 8-2.
Two more runs came across in the final frame of the seventh with a two-run home run down the left field line pushing the score to its final of 10-2.
Colton Taylor (7-4) took the loss for the Javelinas in his start going four innings giving up six runs, five earned, on four hits, and four walks.
Game two
The Rams threatened early in the second half of the abbreviated twin bill, pushing runners into scoring position before attempting to push a run across with a slow rolling ground, but a great fielding play by Luis Martinez off the mound saw him flip the ball to catcher Colton Allen who applied a tag at the plate.
Martinez fanned a Ram two batters later to get out of the inning unscathed.
An inning later the Rams had a runner in scoring position before Allen ended the inning throwing out a runner attempting to steal second.
ASU finally broke through in the third inning with two coming across on a sacrifice bunt and steal of home on a double steal.
TAMUK pulled one run back in the fourth as Jacob Rosales provided a sacrifice fly to center field bringing Steven Bonuz in to score who doubled to right center to begin the inning.
The potent Ram offense posted three runs in the eighth with a bases loaded double down the left field line that cleared the bases, putting ASU up 5-1.
One more came across for ASU in the ninth on a fielder's choice pushing the score to its conclusion of 6-1 as the Javs were unable to put a rally together in the ninth.
The Javelinas now prepare for its final series of the regular season taking on Texas A&M International in a four game series set to begin Friday, April 21.
