KINGSVILLE, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team will face a tough test as Lone Star Conference play nears its conclusion with a four-game slate against No. 2/1 Angelo State awaiting the Javelinas at Nolan Ryan Field. Additionally, this will be the team's final outing at home in the regular season. As such, following a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday, the Pack will celebrate Senior Day ahead of a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. The teams will match up once more for the series finale at 1 p.m. on Sunday.Â
Â
The Javelinas (23-19, 22-18 LSC) will battle the Rams (33-5, 31-5 LSC) as TAMUK enters the weekend sitting sixth, while ASU is atop the LSC leaderboard.Â
Â
The Hogs had a rough go last time out, falling three times in a road series with Lubbock Christian.Â
Â
Freshman Marco Martinez provided a bright spot out of the bullpen, logging a save in the lone victory and tossing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Junior Colton Taylor picked up his seventh win of the year, fanning seven over 5.1 innings, while senior Luis Martinez worked a quality start tossing six innings and striking out six, and allowing just one earned run.Â
Â
Sophomore Jake Chapman led the way at the plate, stroking a home run, maintaining a .333 average, and driving in two runs on four hits. Junior Jacob Rosales was also solid, knocking in one with a triple and batting 400.Â
Â
The Rams, meanwhile, picked up three wins over Texas A&M-International, and have fallen just five times. They've won all but one series, splitting with UT Tyler in February, and they currently lead the nation in shutouts with seven on the year. Their bullpen also boasts the 10th-best ERA in all of NCAA Division II and the best in the LSC at 3.60.
Â
Kade Bragg has been the country's top pitcher, holding a perfect 9-0 record across nine starts with a 0.33 ERA. Aaron Munson joins him near the top of the leaderboard with a 5-1 mark, while Brandon Paxton has gone 4-1 and Mason Bryant 3-0 to round out the regular rotation.Â
Â
Offensively, they sit second in the nation in on-base percentage at .476 and are third in runs, averaging 10.42 per game. A combination of prowess at the plate and smart baserunning have helped them to that mark, as they rank third in stolen bases with 126 on the year, while also slotting themselves atop DII in hit-by-pitches with 101 batters getting plunked.
Â
Jacob Guerrero tops the team with a .436 batting average, and Tyler Bnggs joins him in the 400 club with a .406 average. 10 Rams have logged home runs, with Tripp Clark's total of six pacing the ballclub.Â
