Javelinas complete sweep of UTPB with, 9-0 offensive outburst

TAMUK improves conference record above .500 following weekend sweep

KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M-Kingsville softball completed its sweep of UT Permian Basin with a 9-0 run-rule victory in six innings on Saturday afternoon at home improving the team's conference record to 14-13 in the Lone Star Conference.

"We did exactly what we needed to do today," said interim coach Orlando Salinas. "The team delivered big two-out hits, Lizette was in a groove in the circle, and we backed her up with solid and clean fielding. This was a great series for us, and something we are going to look to build off."

Lizette Del Angel (3-5) delivered a strong performance in the circle for the Javelinas (17-18, 14-13 LSC) getting the win against the Falcons (6-29, 3-24 LSC) with five scoreless innings allowing only three hits with one strikeout.

TAMUK struck in the first inning as they had in the previous two games against the Falcons with two singles by Jory Cervantes and Breanna Carr to begin the game, who were brought across to score as Kayla Gonzales delivered a three-run home run to left center to take the lead.

The Javs added two more runs to their lead in the third as Matisen Onofrei delivered a two-out two-RBI double to left center scoring Gonzales and Carr from first and second.

Gonzales picked up her fourth RBI of the game in the fourth inning shooting a hard single to center field putting TAMUK up, 6-0.

The series finale ended in the sixth as Carr brought another run across on a bases loaded grounder pushing the lead to seven before Aaliyah Ortiz ended the game with a double to left field bringing two more runs in to hit the run-rule limit at, 9-0.

The Javelinas will now prepare for a series on the road against No. 3 UT Tyler beginning with a doubleheader on Thursday, April 6.
