KINGSVILLE, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball program fell 21-11 on Sunday, in a Lone Star Conference series finale at Nolan Ryan Field, despite a four-RBI performance by junior Nick Wolff.Â
The Javelinas (12-10, 11-9 LSC) were defeated by the Falcons (9-11, 9-11 LSC), with junior Cole Payne (2-1) picking up the loss and Creede Jeffers (2-2) the win.Â
Wolff, classmate Michael Cervantes, and junior Jacob Rosales each posted a multi-hit game, while Wolff went deep in the bottom of the first to drive in a pair of runs and deliver his squad a 2-0 lead.Â
UTPB put up a run in the top of the second, but TAMUK got it right back, with junior Garrett Thompson plating Cervantes, who reached base on a leadoff single.Â
With the Javelinas leading 3-1, the Falcons tacked on eight runs to flip the script and take a 9-3 edge. TAMUK fought back, with a trio of walks sending redshirt junior Ivan Duarte up to bat. Duarte then scored one with an RBI single. Shortly after, a sac-fly from Wolff pushed Thompson across the plate for a 9-5 score. Sophomore Dalton Kramer dented the plate on redshirt sophomore Hayden Johnson's sacrifice ahead of a Cervantes triple that plated sophomore Jake Chapman. Redshirt sophomore Ramsey Amador capped off the scoring as he brought Cervantes home on a single, knotting the contest at nine apiece.Â
The Falcons responded with a pair of runs in the fifth, ahead of a bottom frame that featured Wolff plating Kramer, who got on via a ground-rule double.Â
UTPB put up another in the sixth, ahead of a five-run seventh, resulting in a 17-10 Falcon lead. Rosales then launched a solo shot over the center field wall bringing the Pack within six.Â
Four more Falcons runs in the top of the eighth, then ended the contest early, for a 21-11 final score.Â
The Javelinas will head to Tyler, Texas, for a four-game series against UT Tyler, beginning at 7 p.m. at Irwin Field at the UT Tyler Ballpark.Â
