Saturday split for Javelinas against Oklahoma Christian

TAMUK fell 5-4 in game one before igniting the bats in a 13-2 win over OC

OKLAHOMA CITY- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team secured a road split with Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, as the Javelinas fell 5-4 in game one before the bats got hot en route to a 13-2 victory in the back half of a Lone Star Conference twin bill at Dobson Field.

The Javelinas (18-15, 17-13 LSC) split with the Eagles (11-17, 11-16 LSC), as junior Shelby Becker launched two home runs across the games, while classmate Nick Wolff and sophomore Dalton Kramer also went deep. Additionally, Kramer went 5-for-9, including a triple, a double, and two singles to go along with his home run.

Game One

The Javelinas fell 5-4 in game one, despite junior Colton Taylor (5-3) fanning seven and tossing all six innings. The Amherstburg, Ontario native was tagged with the loss, while Naut Kragt (4-3) picked up the win for OC.

TAMUK struck first, with a Kramer double kick-starting the top of the first, ahead of a redshirt junior Ivan Duarte sac-bunt and an RBI groundout by Wolff. The Eagles responded in their half of the frame stringing together a pair of singles before denting the plate on a fielder's choice ground ball.

Becker helped the Javelinas regain the lead with a solo shot in the top of the second before an Eagle miscue allowed redshirt sophomore Ramsey Amador to cross the plate, putting the Javelinas up 3-1. OC again answered, this time knotting the contest at three in the bottom of the inning on a home run by Jayvien Joseph.

Things remained quiet until the Eagles broke through with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Javelinas, now down to their last out in the top of the seventh, got one back via a Kramer home run, but Kragt worked a strikeout to secure a 5-4 win for his club.

Game Two

The Javelinas responded with a commanding 13-2 win in game two, as senior Luis Martinez (5-1) logged his fifth win of the year, while Pearson Pollard (0-2) received the loss. Martinez tossed six frames allowing just two runs and striking out three before handing the ball to sophomore Carter Poulson, who fanned two in a scoreless seventh inning.

TAMUK posted five runs in the top of the second as Kramer dropped a triple into right-center field, scoring junior Garrett Thompson and classmate Michael Cervantes. From there, Wolff doubled, and multiple OC miscues piled up, affording the Pack a five-run edge.

Kramer added another RBI to his total in the third, prior to a two-run fourth that saw Wolff go deep ahead of a senior Steven Bonuz run that came across via a bases-loaded walk. Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the inning then resulted in an 8-1 score line, still favoring TAMUK.

The Javelina bats still weren't finished, as Bonuz plated Duarte following a single and a stolen base before Becker launched his second long ball of the day to increase TAMUK's total to 11. Redshirt sophomore Hayden Johnson then smashed a double into center field before scoring on a single by junior Jacob Rosales.

OC scored in the sixth before sophomore Brandon Ramirez plated the final run of the ballgame in the seventh for a 13-2 Blue and Gold victory.

The Javelinas will battle the Eagles once more as they eye a series victory on Sunday at 1 p.m.
