OKLAHOMA CITY- On Friday, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team claimed an 8-2 victory over Oklahoma Christian in game one of a four-game Lone Star Conference series at Dobson Park, as junior Kobe Jaramillo tossed eight innings with eight strikeouts.Â
The Javelinas (17-14, 16-13 LSC) topped the Eagles (10-16, 10-15 LSC), with Jaramillo (2-2) picking up the win after scattering six hits and allowing just one run while Chris Jones (1-2) was dealt the loss.Â
Junior Shelby Becker and redshirt sophomore Ramsey Amador each went 3-for-4 at the dish, while redshirt junior Ivan Duarte and junior Nick Wolff joined the pair in the multi-hit club. Additionally, Wolff led the team with four RBIs, as Becker, Amador, senior Steven Bonuz, and sophomore Jake Chapman each drove in one.Â
TAMUK wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Duarte reached base on an OC miscue before swiping second and scoring on a double by Bonuz. Chapman then dropped a single into right field, allowing Bonuz to dent the plate for a 2-0 Blue and Gold lead. Three Eagle singles then saw them slice the Blue and Gold edge in half, with TAMUK up 2-1 entering the second stanza.Â
In the top of the third, junior Michael Cervantes walked, and Duarte doubled ahead of a Wolff single that pushed the pair across the plate. A Becker single shortly after drove Wolff home, delivering a 5-1 Javelina lead.Â
With two outs in the top of the fourth, sophomore Dalton Kramer was issued a free pass ahead of a Duarte single and a Wolff triple that grew the Blue and Gold lead to six.Â
The Javelina offense wasn't done yet, as they added one more run in the fifth, courtesy of a sharply hit ball by Amador. Jaramillo then maintained the 8-1 edge before junior Jerson Morales took over in the ninth. The Eagles got one back in the final frame before senior Matthew Sesler entered and recorded the last out.Â
The teams will meet again with a doubleheader set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, ahead of the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
