TYLER, Texas – Javelina baseball split their Saturday doubleheader against UT-Tyler on the road taking game one, 9-4 as Colton Taylor threw a complete game win before TAMUK fell in game two, 15-1.
The Javelina (13-12, 12-11 LSC) offense was on fire to start game one, as Nick Wolff opened the scoring in the first with a solo shot down the right field line giving TAMUK a 1-0 lead.
Shelby Becker followed suit in the second with two-run home run to left field to put the Blue and Gold up, 3-0.
Three more runs came across in the third for the Hogs beginning with a Jake Chapman RBI single scoring Wolff. Hayden Johnson, followed with a sacrifice fly to center scoring Steven Bonuz before Shelby Becker earned an RBI with a groundout to second scoring Chapman.
The Patriots (15-8, 15-8 LSC), got one run back with an RBI double to left center in the third cutting the Javs' lead to 6-1.
Wolff picked up his second RBI of the day with a single up the middle as Bonuz brought Wolff in via an RBI double to center field pushing the Hogs lead to 8-1.
In the fifth, Dalton Kramer singled to right field bringing Becker in to score after he walked to open the inning.
UT-Tyler loaded the bases in the sixth, scoring one run on a hit-by-pitch bringing in a run. In the next at-bat, Colton Taylor forced a double play ground ball to end the inning.
The Pats got two runs back in the seventh, before Taylor got a strikeout and forced a groundout to seal the 9-4 win for the Javelinas.
In game two, the Patriots jumped out early getting four runs across in the first inning with a walk, three hits and a sacrifice fly.
In the third, UT-Tyler tacked on five more runs via two singles, a wild pitch, and two bases loaded walks.
The lead was pushed to 10 in the fourth as the Pats scored on an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
TAMUK got one run back in the fifth as Michael Cervantes scored on an sacrifice fly by Ivan Duarte.
The Pats added two more runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth expanding their lead to 14 at 15-1.
Luis Martinez (3-1) took the loss in the start for TAMUK going two innings allowing eight runs on eight hits.
The Javs and Pats will meet tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the series finale in Tyler.
