LAREDO, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's golf team put on a strong performance on the first day of the Jack Brown Memorial Invitational on Monday in Laredo, Texas.
The Javelinas took to Laredo Country Club in difficult and windy conditions, and came away shooting a score of 335 as a team tying them for sixth in the team standings with No. 24 Biola.
Freshman Victoria Patterson, led the way on day one, shooting a team best 79 which sees her tied for tenth in the individual standings.
Another standout freshman Cesilee Mokry was just two shots off Patterson's pace shooting a score of 81 good for being tied for seventeenth place.
"Victoria and Cesilee fought hard today in tough conditions," said head coach Stefanie Maynard. "It's never easy when tournament round conditions don't match the practice rounds, but they fought all round and came away with good results. As a whole, we need be more aggressive in putting and attack the course and then I think we can put some seriously low scores."
Kristin Grabow posted two birdies in her round en route to a first round 86, and Alessia Rojas and Katelyn Habib rounded out the Javelinas posting an 89 and 92 respectively.
Tuesday's final round is set to begin at 8 a.m. The women's side of the tournament features 11 teams, including St. Mary's, #19 UT Tyler, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Angelo State and #6 West Texas A&M from the Lone Star Conference. Also joining the field are #24 Biola, Academy of Art, Houston-Victoria, Ashland and Fort Lewis.
The course plays as a par 72 and a total of 5,929 yards for the women and a par 72 with a total yardage of 6,994 yards for the men.
