Javelinas visit Dustdevils, invite Falcons to Nolan Ryan Field

TAMUK will face Texas A&M-International in Laredo, Texas, ahead of a four-game series against UT Permian Basin in Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team will head to Jorge Haynes Field for a nonconference matchup with Texas A&M-International slated for Wednesday at 2 p.m., ahead of a four-game Lone Star Conference series with UT Permian Basin beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. inside the confines of Nolan Ryan Field.

Following the series opener, the teams will meet again Saturday, with a 2 p.m. doubleheader ahead of the finale Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Javelinas (10-7, 9-7 LSC) will battle the Dustdevils (5-12, 5-11 LSC) once more, with the Pack picking up an 8-7 victory in an earlier meeting that saw redshirt junior Ivan Duarte mash a walk-off home run.

Recently, the Javelinas took three games from a road series against Cameron, as junior Colton Taylor and senior Luis Martinez each tossed complete game shutouts. Taylor was named LSC Pitcher of the Week after allowing just two hits over nine frames with eight strikeouts. Martinez, meanwhile, punched out 14 over seven clean innings.

Classmate Steven Bonuz led the way at the dish, batting .471 across four games. He went 8-for-17, smacking three doubles and a triple for a 1.208 OPS. Additionally, the senior drove in eight runs while crossing the plate twice for the squad.

TAMIU picked up a lone victory in a series against UTPB, and the bullpen currently maintains an 8.67 ERA, with Jan Cabrera and Lalo Salinas each posting multiple wins on the year. Cabrera also leads the squad with 26 strikeouts, giving up only two walks in the process.

At the plate, Joseph Cruz boasts a .356 batting average with nine RBIs, 15 walks, and 21 hits. Cameron Stevenson has launched multiple home runs on the season, while Marcos Alvarado and Ronnie Bailey have each gone deep.

The Falcons (7-9, 7-9 LSC) are coming off a series win over TAMIU and have turned 13 double plays on the year, the third-most in the LSC. They also sit third in the stolen bases with 22, as Mason Hamlin ranks second in the league, swiping seven.

Creede Jeffers has been excellent for UTPB out of the bullpen, picking up a conference-leading three saves, while Andrew Troppman has earned a pair of wins out of the pen, holding a 4.22 ERA across eight appearances and 10.2 innings.

At the plate, Cooper Ciesielski has launched three home runs and 16 RBIs en route to a .383 batting average and a 1.146 OPS. Austin Hall has driven in 13 runs with 18 total bases, and Jack Haggerty has sent 11 across the plate on just seven hits.
