Javelinas split as Taylor shutouts Aggies in backend of doubleheader

Taylor allowed two hits while fanning seven en route for a complete game shutout

LAWTON, Okla.-On Friday, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team split a Lone Star Conference doubleheader with Cameron, first falling 11-3, before a dominant pitching performance propelled the Pack to a 4-0 win in game two at McCord Field.

The Javelinas (8-7, 7-7 LSC) split with the Aggies (3-11, 3-11 LSC) as junior Colton Taylor went the distance, tossing nine scoreless frames with seven strikeouts and allowing just two hits en route to the victory.

Game One

Sophomore Kobe Jaramillo (1-2) was handed the loss in game one, as Drew Henderson (1-3) picked up an 11-3 win in game one.

After Jarmillo kept the game scoreless for the first two innings, the Javelina offense broke through in the top of the third after Chapman slapped a leadoff single. Two quick outs followed before Wolff dropped a double into right center for a 1-0 Javelina lead. The rally continued, with Johnson plating Wolff with a base knock before scoring himself on a two-bagger by Bonuz that put the squad up 3-0.

The Aggies then scored five in the fourth, and three in the fifth, before adding three more n the sixth, while the Javelinas offense couldn't find a spark, eventually falling 11-3.

Game Two

Taylor twirled a gem en route to a 4-0 victory in game two, tossing a nine-inning complete-game-shutout and striking out seven while allowing just two hits. This marks the second time a Javelina hurler has gone the distance in as many weeks, after Jaramillo fanned seven across nine scoreless frames against Eastern New Mexico last Friday.

The Javelinas wasted no time crossing the plate, with Kramer drawing a leadoff walk, before taking second on a wild pitch and advancing to third on a deep fly ball by Wolff. Johnson then plated him on a groundout for the first run of the ballgame.

Duarte sliced a single through the left side to open the top of the fifth, with a Kramer triple shortly after pushing him across the plate. Johnson then walked and Bonuz singles allowing Kramer to score. Now leading 3-0, Johnson swiped home on a timing play as Bonuz was caught stealing increasing TAMUK's total to four.

Taylor (3-1) then finished the deal, with no runs scoring across the final four frames, allowing him to pickup the win, while Jayce Clem (0-2) was issued the loss.

The teams will meet again on Friday, with another twin bill awaiting at 1 p.m. at McCord Field on the campus of Cameron.
