Javelinas visit Aggies for pair of doubleheaders

Following a schedule change, TAMUK and Cameron will meet on Thursday and Friday for two twin bills

KINGSVILLE, Texas-The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball program has updated its schedule and will now face Cameron on Thursday and Friday in a pair of doubleheaders due to weather issues. Game one on both days is slotted for 1 p.m. at McCord Field in Lawton, Oklahoma.

The Javelinas (7-6, 6-6 LSC) have won their last two Lone Star Conference series, recently picking up three victories over Eastern New Mexico. Among the wins was a complete-game shutout thrown by junior Kobe Jaramillo that netted him LSC Pitcher of the Week. Classmate Colton Taylor, freshman Marco Martinez, and junior Cole Payne also picked up wins, with Payne's coming in a nonconference matchup with Texas A&M-International.

At the dish, a trio of Javelinas maintained a weekly average over .400, with redshirt junior Ivan Duarte leading the way, batting .467 and hitting a walk-off home run to best TAMIU. Junior Nick Wolff and redshirt sophomore Hayden Johnson also performed well, with Wolff batting a long ball and hitting .429, while Johnson drove in seven runs with four doubles and a .412 batting average.

Overall, the Javelina offense had been booming, with 138 hits on the season, ranking fifth in NCAA Division II, and Wolff's team-high of 22 sitting fifth on the individual leader board. The junior from Klein, Texas, also leads the LSC with five home runs and is sixth nationally.

The Aggies (2-10, 2-10 LSC) are looking to bounce back after a rough start to the 2023 campaign, picking up lone wins over Lubbock Christian and Texas A&M-International.

The pitching staff holds a 13.09 ERA and has sent six different starters out on the mound. Nate Creason and Clayton McLennan have each picked up a win, while Drew Henderson leads the staff in strikeouts with 12.

Beau Williams has been the team's top slugger, hitting .341 with an OPS of 1.056. He's hit three home runs with nine RBIs and has crossed the plate himself nine times. Lance Barnett has also launched three long balls on the year, plating 12 in the process.
