Javs drop road matchup to OC, 92-83

TAMUK falls for second game in a row

OKLAHOMA CITY - Texas A&M-Kingsville's men's basketball team dropped a road Lone Star Conference matchup on Thursday night to Oklahoma Christian, 92 –83. 

"We have to continue to work through a few execution issues," said head coach Johnny Estelle. "Give OC credit, they played well tonight. When you are leading the division, everyone wants to beat you, so you have to be ready." 

The Eagles (9-13, 5-11 LSC), never trailed in the game jumping out to an early lead in the first half shooting 50% from the field. The strong performance from the field saw OC's lead grow to as much as 17 points in the first half, 39-22 with 4 minutes remaining in the half. 

Dillon Gooding kept the Javelinas (15-8, 9-6 LSC) in the game with 14 first-half points in the game, as TAMUK cut the lead down to five at one point before the half ended at, 45-36 in favor of OC. 

OC stayed hot from the field in the second half, shooting 16-of-27 (59.26%) in the half, led by Antonio Gordon who posted a game-high 28 points en route to their win. 

On the night, the Javelinas shot 47.5 percent from the floor and posted an impressive 42 points from the bench in the game. 

Gooding went on to be TAMUK's highest scorer in the effort recording 20 points in the effort on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Moving forward, the Javelinas will take on the Lions of Arkansas Fort Smith on Saturday at 3 p.m.
