San Antonio, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team traveled to San Antonio, Texas where they took on the St. Mary's Rattlers dropping the match in four sets (14-25, 25-18, 18-25, 14-25).
The Javelinas (18-8, 10-4 LSC) came into Wednesday after going five sets with Texas Woman's University, dropping that match to the Pioneers three sets to two.
The Javelinas came into the match ready to get back on track after dropping a close matchup the last time out. TAMUK ended the day with a .117 hitting percentage and seven blocks on the day while the pioneers hit a .208 having eight blocks on the day. Junior middle blocker
Ayanna Jackson despite the outcome still managed to have a good match hitting a .294 having 13 kills on the evening.
Set one began with the Javelinas rattling off four straight getting out ahead of the Rattlers 4-0, before St. Mary's eventually battled back tying the set at 10 apiece. The Rattlers went on a 7-1 run from that point making it a 17-11 set before a
Meghan Stiefer kill stopped the run. St. Mary's however still able to go on yet another 7-1 run at the 19-13 point in the set, ending set one 25-14.
Set number two saw the most tightly contested set of the match as there were 5 tie scores and two lead changes. The Javelinas, however, started out slow as it took a 4-0 run at the 7-10 point to tie things up once again at 10 apiece. From there the Javelinas were able to go on two separate 4-0 runs of their own creating some distance from the Rattlers making it a 23-17 Javelina lead. The Javelinas would only allow one more St. Mary's score and would go on to take set two 25-18.
The third set started off close before a 4-0 run and two separate 3-0 runs made it a 12-7 set. The Javelinas battled back before a 7-1 run made it a 23-15 score. The Javelinas put together a 3-0 run battling near the end of the set before the Rattlers took two more tasking set three 25-18.
The fourth and final set saw multiple runs for the Rattlers leading to an early 13-2 deficit. The Javelinas battling back however chopping down the lead before a late run killed the Javelina momentum and the Rattlers ended up taking the set 25-14.
The Javelinas back in the confines of the Steinke Physical Education Center next time out as they match up against the West Texas Lady Buffs Friday November 10
th at 6:00 PM.
