SAN ANTONIO, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team played their final game of the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic and their last game before conference play taking down the #12 Missouri Western State Griffons 62-48.

Michael Madrid. "Proud of our team collectively. We were very sloppy in the first half but settled in and executed better the last two quarters. Looking forward to our next opportunity".
Sophomore
Shelby Ray was the leading scorer of the day for the Javelinas with 16 points going 5-12 from the field. Also in double digits on the day was Junior
Abby Bala with 11 points going 3-7 from the field.
TAMUK outshot their opponent for the fifth straight game in a row going 40.9.% from the field compared to the Griffon 29.6%, as well as 20.0% from long range compared to Missouri Western State's 12.5%. TAMUK would also outrebound their opponent once again with 39 compared to the Griffons 34.
The Javelinas would start the game off hot once again as they would go on a 6-0 run compliments of 4 free throws and a
Shelby Ray layup putting TAMUK in front early with only 2 minutes and 30 seconds passed in the first.
Aina Maynou was able to extend the run with a layup of her own before the Griffons were able to put a couple of buckets together making it 8-5 with 5:04 left in the first. Former Griffon
Abby Bala would be the last person for either squad to score for a whole three minutes game time before
Maynou would put up 4 points sending the game to the second Javelinas on top 14-5.
Bala would start the second with a three before the Griffons would go on a 9-0 run, ending with
Devon Williams grabbing the board off of an
Alyssa O' Malley free throw to put things at 19-14 with 4:01 left in the half. The Javelinas and Griffons would go back and forth with free throws, before a Griffon free throw would be the last score of the half sending both squads to the locker room Javelinas up 23-21.
The third would start with the Griffons tying things at 23 apiece right out of the locker room before
Veyda Lake would put the Javelinas back up 2 with a set of free throws at the 8:08 point in the quarter.
Janessa Payne would soon after make a pair of free throws of her own before the Javelinas took off going on an 11-4 run putting the score at 38-27 with 3:52 left in the third. The Griffons would respond by using the remaining time in the third to go on an 11-4 run closing out the third and heading to the final quarter Javelinas still leading 42-38.
The fourth would start all Javelinas as they took roughly six game minutes to go on a 14-0 run putting the game at 56-38 with 3:56 left to go. The Griffons would finally get on the board in the fourth with a free throw at the 3:48 point in the game before trading buckets putting the game at 62-44 with 1:53 left. The Griffons would rattle off four more points to end the game putting another victory in the books for the Javelinas 62-48.
The Javelinas are home for the first time this season facing Angelo State at the Steinke Physical Education Center for the start of Lone Star Conference action. The game will take place November 30
th at 5:30 PM CST.
