PORTALES, New Mexico – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's and women's cross-country teams wrapped up the 2023 season in an action-packed weekend in Portales, New Mexico at the Lone Star Conference Championships.
The women's 6K kicked off the competition, held on the grounds just outside of Greyhound Arena. The men competed in the 8K following the women.
Maya Espinosa led the Javelinas to the finish line in 17
th-place with a time of 23:03. It was her first finish of the season as the highest-placing Javelina.
Janeth Chacon crossed the line next in 26
th with a time of 23:33. She was followed two minutes later by
Fae Gonzalez in 60
th-place, clocking in a time of 25:15.
Ivanova Yanes and
Odette Fernandez did not finish the race after withdrawing due to medical issues.
For the men,
Cody Fountain completed his streak as the highest finisher on the squad in every race after securing 56
th-place with a 27:46 in the 8K.
Nicolas Torres,
Justin Ramirez, and
Angel Campos followed in quick succession less than two minutes later. Torres claimed 85
th-place with a time of 29:01. Ramirez and Campos finished back-to-back in 90
th and 91
st with times of 29:25 and 29:26 respectively.
Preston Moore and
Rene Mungia were the next Javelinas to cross the finish line in 97
th and 102
nd place. Moore clocked in a 30:12 while Mungia finished with a time of 30:39.
Rounding out the times for the squad,
Abner Villanueva finished the meet in 106
th with a time of 31:12.
Daniel Perez followed shortly after in 107
th-place, clocking in a 31:25.
The men finish the meet in 12
th-place overall with 344 points. The women did not have enough finishers to qualify for a team placing.
