KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team took to the road Friday where they took down the Lady Chaps in a three-set sweep (25-19, 25-22, 25-18).
The Javelinas (13-6, 5-2 LSC) came into Friday keeping their momentum alive after a three set sweep over the UT-Tyler Patriots at home the week prior.
"I'm proud of the way the girls played tonight," stated Head Coach
Tanya Allen-Gonzalez. "We worked on some specific offensive things this week at practice and the girls did a fantastic job using those skills in the game tonight."
The Javelinas shined all around hitting a .323 and limiting LCU to a .179 hitting percentage. The Javelinas also had 14 blocks on the night with Junior middle blocker
Ayanna Jackson having six of them. Jackson also showed out offensively with 13 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter
Jackie Alanis also produced with 10 kills and a .250 hitting percentage adding to the Javelina offense.
Set one started with an
Isabel Neu ace that led to a 6-0 run forcing the Lady Chaps to take a timeout to try and cool down the Javelinas. The set continued with the chaps making a run of their own getting it to within two for a 15-13 score. With seven blocks and 14 total kills in the set however, the Javelinas were too much for the Lady chaps and took set one 25-19.
In set two, neither team had the edge as it was a close one throughout having 8 lead changes and 15 total ties. No team getting further than three from one another, the largest run in the set was a 4-0 run early by the Lady Chaps that made it 7-10. The Javelinas however went on their own 4-0 run at the 21-22 point in the set allowing them to take set two 25-22.
The third set saw the Lady Chaps grab a 1-0 lead before the Javelinas went on a 5-0 run making it 5-1 early. The Javelinas in control until the Lady Chaps went on a 5-0 run tying up the set at 12 all. The Javelinas took a timeout and came out rattling off three straight making it 15-12, then went on two more 3-0 runs ultimately solidifying the match winning set three 25-18
The Javelinas will be playing further west next time out as they take on Eastern New Mexico on Saturday October 21
st at the Greyhound Arena in Portales, New Mexico.
