Javelinas cap off homestand with matchups against Pioneers and Patriots

TAMUK will play its fourth straight contest in the SPEC

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team will host No. 12/8 Texas Woman's in a Faith Night matchup on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., ahead of a U.S. Military and First Responders Appreciation Day clash against UT Tyler Saturday at 1 p.m.
Ā
The Javelinas (7-7, 4-4 LSC) will wrap up a four-game homestand following the in-division contests after splitting last weekend, topping UAFS 68-41 before falling to Oklahoma Christian 67-60.Ā
Ā
SophomoreĀ Jayde TschritterĀ led the way in scoring, averaging 18 PPG across the matchups, including a 27-point performance against the Lions. Additionally, freshmanĀ Shelby RayĀ excelled defensively, snagging 14 rebounds and recording six blocks, bringing her season total to 23, which ranks second in the LSC. Nobody in the league averages as many assists per game as freshmanĀ Mia Rivers, who dishes out 5.3 APG, the 13-highest total in the nation.
Ā
The Javs continue to dominate around the perimeter as a team, shooting a league-high 33.5% from beyond the arc while holding opponents to a 24.5% clip.Ā
Ā
The No. 12/8 Pioneers (13-1, 8-0 LSC) maintain a spot atop the LSC and come into Kingsville riding an 11-game win streak. TWU has only dropped a single contest this season, last losing to Harding in an overtime battle on November 16th.Ā
Ā
The squad excels at the charity stripe, with 17 points per game coming from the free-throw line. Ashley Ingram ranks fourth nationally in freebies and leads the Pioneers in points at 15.7 PPG. Sadie Moyer isn't far behind with 13.7 PPG, while Brielle Woods paces the team in steals with 29 on the season and Ngozi Obinkeke in rebounds with 6.5 RPG.
Ā
Meanwhile, the Patriots (13-2. 8-0 LSC) are tied with TWU for the Eastern Division lead, with both teams sitting 4-0. UTT has only fallen twice throughout 2022-23, losing to Colorado Christian and Henderson State earlier in the campaign. They've won eight straight, including a recent nail-biter against St. Mary's that resulted in a 42-40 victory.Ā
Ā
The Javelinas will be tasked with defending Lovisa Hevinder, the league leader in three-point shooting at 40%, and Destini Whitehead, who averages 14.3 PPG. Additionally, Hevinder excels on the glass with 5.2 RPG in 15 starts.
