KINGSVILLE, Texas — On Tuesday, the Lone Star Conference released the 2022 cross country preseason poll ahead of a season that culminates on Saturday, Nov. 5, in Wichita Falls, Texas, with the LSC Championships hosted by Midwestern State.
Following the 2021 campaign, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's team is slated for a 14th-place finish receiving 70 points, while the women's program also landed 14th with 73 points, allowing them to narrowly edge out UT Permian Basin, who was selected 15th, scoring 60.
Picking up 32 out of 35 first-place votes, West Texas A&M was chosen to repeat as conference champion while earning 486 total points. DBU amassed 433, slotting them second, while St. Edwards was selected third, scoring 400.
On the women's side, DBU garnered 29 first-place votes to take that top spot with 547 overall points. WT was picked second, earning the remaining eight first-place selections and 525 total points. Texas A&M International rounds out the top three, scoring 457.
A pair of Javelinas were noted as runners to watch, with sophomore
Cody Fountain representing the men after a season in which he led the Javs in all six events. He placed 79th at last seasons league meet and was listed as LSC Freshman of the Week on Oct. 13, 2021, as a result of a 25:06.7 time in the 8k.

Odette Fernandez was recognized as a female runner to watch as she led her squad in every event and claimed LSC Freshman of the Week honors after a ninth-place finish at the 2021 OLLU Invitational while running the fifth-fastest time in school history, at 23:38.5.
The season officially kicks off on Friday, Sep. 2, as the squad heads to San Antonio, Texas, for the UIW Twilight meet, with teams toeing the starting line at 9:10 p.m.
