NEW ORLEANS (USTFCCCA) — The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association released its Outdoor All-America honorees on Tuesday, with seniorÂ
Gertrudis Balli (Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico) and classmateÂ
Johnathon Harper (Lorena, Texas) each representing the Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program on the First-Team.Â
Â
Balli got the job done in the discus, as she reached 47.08m (154-5) on her third attempt to place seventh in Allendale, Michigan, at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. This marks Balli's second All-America honor of her career, while representing the first time she's cracked the first team.
Â
Harper, meanwhile, collected silver at the national meet, with the Lorena native recording 7,360 points en route to the podium. Earlier in the year, Harper shattered the Javelina school record with a 7,403 performance at the Lone Star Conference Championships at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium. This selection is the eighth across all seasons and the fifth First-Team honor of Harper's outdoor career.Â
Â
To be selected to the First-Team, USTFCCCA All-American athletes must finish among the top eight in their respective events, while Second-Team honorees must finish in spots No. 9-12.Â
