Javelinas visit Canyon for WT Last Chance Meet

Eight Javelinas will be looking to climb the national leader board on Sunday

KINGSVILLE, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field program will send eight to Canyon, Texas, for the WT Last Chance meet hosted by Lone Star Conference-foe West Texas A&M at the WTAMU Track and Field Cross Country Complex on Sunday.

Four throwers will make the trip, including redshirt senior D.J. Delancy (Bethel Town, Jamaica), who's coming off a Lone Star Conference championship in the shot put. Nationally, Delancy ranks 14th entering the weekend after reaching 17.76m (58-3.25) at the league meet.

Along with Delancy, sophomore Katryna Hernandez (Skidmore, Texas) looks to climb the shot put leader board with her best toss of the year, landing her 26th at 14.14m (46-4.75). Newcomer Devon Williams (Kingsville, Texas) enters the discus field in 24th on the performance list after slinging the discus 46.29m (151-10) in her last competition.

Rounding out the group, senior Stephen Cardenas (Ingleside, Texas) will enter the hammer throw. Cardenas' best mark came at the J Fred Duckett Twilight Invitational on the campus of Rice when his throw measured at 56.06m (183-11).

After setting the school record in Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium, senior Kimberly Ortolon (Edna, Texas) enters the pole vault at 23rd nationally with a 3.96m (12-11.75) clearance.

Junior Jordan Wilson (Blytheville, Arkansas) looks to cement his trip to the national meet in the long jump. The Arkansas native ranks 18th currently in the event after he measured at 7.43m (24-4.5) at the conference championships. Joining Wilson in the long jump, redshirt senior Shammawi Wellington (Portmore, Jamaica) holds a season-best leap of 7.30m (23-11.5).

Among the track athletes looking to punch their tickets is sophomore Gabriel Field (China Spring, Texas), competing in the hurdle competitions. He clocked in at 52.86 in the 400 m hurdles at the Wendel D. Ley track, which slots him 24th entering the weekend.
