COMMERCE, Texas – Despite a pair of first-inning runs, the No. 2 Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team couldn't find a way to add to that total and suffered a 4-2 loss to the seventh-seeded St. Mary's Rattlers on the second day of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament at the John Cain Family Softball Complex on Friday in Commerce, Texas.

The Javelinas will now play in an elimination game at Friday at 5 p.m. against either No. 19 Oklahoma Christian or No. 14 Texas A&M-Commerce.

TAMUK got off to a fast start with a Loren Kelly (Rockport, Texas) lead-off triple and Kelly would score on an StMU error for the game's first run. Sophomore Kayla Gonzales (San Antonio, Texas) drove in a second run with an RBI single and the Blue and Gold ended the top of the first with a 2-0 lead.

A solo homer by Jayme Johns in the bottom of the first immediately got a run back for the Rattlers and the score stayed 2-1 for the next two innings until Jamison Holder started the fourth with her own solo blast, tying the score at two.

In the fifth, the Javs had a chance to move back ahead, putting runners on second and third with one out, but a fielder's choice groundout and a flyout ended the threat. StMU then took their first lead of the day in the bottom of the frame thanks to a Cassidy Mageors long ball and they added another run in the sixth. Pitcher Jadyn Abrego, who recorded all 21 outs for the Rattlers, held that lead through the final two innings.
