PEMBROKE, N.C.- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team is receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's national poll for the second consecutive week after claiming four victories over Texas A&M International this past weekend.
The Javelinas earned a 4-3 victory in the series opener, with sophomore
Colton Taylor (Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada) earning the win and kick-starting an incredible weekend on the mound for the righty. Sophomore
Jake Chapman (Boerne, Texas) made the difference at the plate, hitting an RBI single to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth, before freshman
Brandon Rodriguez (San Diego, Texas) charged home on an error by the Dustdevil third baseman to walk it off in the ninth,
The team then took two from TAMIU in a Saturday doubleheader, winning game one 3-1, off the back of a strong starting pitching performance by sophomore
Kobe Jaramillo (Bishop, Texas), who punched out five in six innings and allowed just one run. Taylor entered in the seventh and slammed the door shut for his sixth save of the season.
In-game two, senior
Logan Garza (Round Rock, Texas) logged a season-best 10 strikeouts, while classmate
Kyler Bumstead (Kountze, Texas) and sophomore
Ramsey Amador (Edinburg, Texas) went perfect at the plate, with each going 2-2 with a walk. Bumstead and sophomore
Nick Wolff (Klein, Texas) earned three RBIs apiece in the 10-4 win.
Redshirt senior
Brandon Symmank (Cypress, Texas) earned his fifth win of the season in a 3-2 pitcher's duel that saw opponents earn just three hits in seven innings on the bump. With the team down a run in the sixth, sophomore
Ivan Duarte (Juarez, Mexico) belted a double down the right field line scoring senior
Giancarlo Servin (Edinburg, Texas). Servin later gave his team the lead in the seventh with an RBI single that allowed two Javelinas to dent the plate. Taylor tossed the final two innings of the ballgame, earning his league-leading seventh save. The Ontario native also sits seventh nationally in the category in his first Blue and Gold season.
Additionally, the Hogs have compiled a 23-11 overall record, while maintaining a 21-11 league mark. The team's five-game win streak is the best in the Lone Star Conference and they sit fourth in the standings behind Lubbock Christian, West Texas, and Angelo State, all of whom are nationally ranked.
LCU ranks 22nd, WT 14th, and ASU seventh, rounding out the list of LSC programs to receive recognition. The Javelinas will take a week off, before taking on the St. Edwards Hilltoppers in a four-game conference series beginning Thursday, April 14, at Lucas Hamilton Field in Austin, Texas.
